Ocean Sports has a collection of Ocean Veranda Rooms. These are all beautifully spaced out ensuring peace and privacy. Each room has a veranda and en suite bathroom with hot showers, towels and toiletries. Twin, double and triple rooms are available. Cots can be arranged for children at no extra cost. All rooms are air conditioned and beds have mosquito nets. There is a safe for valuables at reception, and laundry service available at a small extra cost.
This is a ‘nest’ of 4 large rooms around a communal open veranda seating area. One of the rooms is a Family Suite with a double children’s room and a shared bathroom. This is ideal for a families or a group of friends.
The Ocean Cabana is a two story room with large sliding glass doors ensuring the best views of the ocean and plenty of light.

Ocean Sports Resort is situated in one of the most unspoiled underwater reserves in the world. Since fishing is not allowed in the Watamu National Marine Park, it is a safe haven and breeding ground for numerous species of fish.

Kayaks, windsurfs, and standup paddle boards are available for hire from the hotel. Paddle around the headland or in the calm waters in front of Ocean Sports. With the water so clear, you often spot turtles and rays, especially from the paddle boards. Morris, our windsurfing instructor is also available to give lessons.
Watamu is a kitesurfers’ paradise. The calm waters and seasonal winds make it the best destination to learn and master the sport. Equipment is available to hire and lessons can be arranged with highly professional instructors from Tribe Watersports.
Snorkeling is a must-do activity for all who visit Watamu. The huge array of tropical fish & coral is simply spectacular. Dolphins can sometimes be spotted and travelling to the reef in a glass bottom boat is an experience in itself.
At Ocean Sports we have a professional PADI accredited dive company on site to organise and oversee your diving trips. Our dive instructors have local knowledge unrivalled by anyone else on the coast and are able to arrange the best dives to suit your level and requirements.
The hotel has a tennis and squash court, as well as rackets and balls for guests’ use. Both games, as well as hockey are played on a weekly basis, you’re welcome to join in and meet the resident members. Beach games, such as volleyball, cricket, ultimate Frisbee and touch rugby are also often organized.
For those who want to venture into the bush there are numerous safari options available from Watamu. The famous Tsavo East National Park lies only 100km west of Watamu (two hours by road or 30 minutes in a light aircraft) and boasts the full complement of animal and bird species as well as an incredible variety of landscapes and scenery. A bird-lovers paradise: Mida Creek Reserve is less than 5km from Ocean Sports Resort.
With extensive mangrove forests, warm shallow waters and mud-flats at low tide, the creek is home to many local birds such as the Greater Flamingo, Yellow-Billed Stalk, Great White Egret and Malachite Kingfisher. The Osprey and African Fish Eagle are also often sighted. In winter, the creek plays host to some seasonal migrants: the Crab Plover, Curlew Sandpiper, Whimbrel and Sanderling.
Watamu is a fisherman’s paradise… Come and enjoy big-game fishing in one of the most beautiful places in the world! The 3 boats that fish out of Ocean Sports all have years of experience in big game fishing in this part of the Indian Ocean. They are all owner-run with highly professional crews.
Our clean, clear waters are world famous for Black Marlin, Blue Marlin, Striped Marlin, Swordfish, Sailfish and many different game fish. With deep water just a short distance off-shore, prime fishing can be had at a very close range.
Half and Full-day charters are available with a beach pick-up right in front of the Hotel. The season runs from mid July through to the end of April.
Covering over 400 square kilometers, the Sokoke Forest is the last large area of indigenous coastal forest left in Kenya and is the key site for the global survival of six bird species and three mammal species.
The forest is less than 20 minutes away from Ocean Sports Resort and the Arubuko-Sokoke Forest Guides Association has several expert guides who can accompany you on forest walks. The forest has over 260 recorded species of bird and as expert ornithologists, the guides can help you find some of the rare and unique birds of the Sokoke forest. For those who want to see the bigger residents of the forest, there is the Elephant Watering Hole.
‘Ocean Legend’ is the Hotel’s boat on Mida Creek and is available to hire, with crew, for any of the following excursions:
Creek Fishing – cruise around the beautiful creek and fish for Trevally, Barracuda, Jacks and Mangrove Snapper to name a few. Tackle and rods provided.
Birdwatching – Come and see the many different species of birds on the Creek from the waters of their natural habitat. A specialist Bird Guide is available to book.
Sundowner or Picnic Boat Trips – Order a cool box of drinks and choose a selection of delicious bitings from the Ocean Sports menu and these can be packed for an unbeatable sundown experience afloat on Mida Creek.
