What's good about Salt Lick Safari Lodge?

Salt Lick Safari Lodge

Salt Lick Safari Lodge just recently unveiled its new look following a couple of months of closure. An investment worth millions along with a new visual identity and branding has been injected into the property, which originally opened almost 50 years ago.

A favourite amongst travellers in search of luxury accommodation, Salt Lick Safari Lodge has reopened after an extensive refurbishment that began in January 2022.

What has changed?

A team of local architects have been leading the enhancements, with works including a remodelling of the interiors of the guestrooms and bathrooms. Our accommodation has been refreshed with new lighting enhancements and colour palettes, complimented by the latest technology. The lodge regular visitors will also notice significant changes to the overall landscaping, and a dedicated water hole that is very common with wildlife.

Activities

To enhance our guests experience while staying with us, the lodge boasts of Water Hole & a Tunnel that brings our guests up close to observing mega herbivores looking to quench their thirst. The experience is more rewarding during dry spells/season as large groups of elephants, buffaloes, zebras and various antelopes (sometime trailed by big cats) come for scarce water which is provided for by a well-positioned water hole supplied by a borehole dedicated for wildlife.

As part of Salt Lick Safari Lodge enhanced experience, there are further bush activities sites within the sanctuary that can be used for bush breakfast, sundowner or bush dinner depending on the taste and size of the group involved.

For guests keen on battlefield tourism, we highly recommend an excursion on World War 1. Guided by our well versed rangers on the World War One activities which took place in Taita-Taveta County more than a century ago, you will get a chance to visit all the battled field sites within the Taita locality then summarize with a presentation at the Taita Hills Safari Resort & Spa Artefacts Museum.

Reforestation

Our reforestation project was first established in 2010 as a pilot project which covers 35 trees per 0.5 sq. km. So far more than 10,000 indigenous trees have been planted and are thriving. Guests visiting us here at Salt Lick Safari Lodge are encouraged to be part of wildlife wellbeing & rehabilitation activities, like planting of a tree during their stay.
